Letter from Elizabeth Yorke, Lady Hardwicke to Lady de Grey. Good wishes for the new year.

Have our best neighbours at their homes at present – Lord Delaware and Mr Pym, ‘though of opposite politics yet they go hand in hand in good and useful labours…’ State of Paris is mixed with fear and doubt. Reference to the ‘unhappy prisoners’ who did not receive the sentence of death and were spirited away from the Luxembourg Palace. Daughter Elizabeth informs the writer that the gates were twice forced, with loss of life on both sides. Elizabeth also reports that Jules de Polignac had not anticipated so severe a sentence, though his wife will rejoice at his personal safety [he was sentenced to 'perpetual' imprisonment]. Further information repeated from Elizabeth’s letters. Newspapers mention the resignation of La Fayette. Henry Yorke is coming to stay. Pleased to hear that Lord Grantham’s son is better and that the air of Hastings has suited him so well.
