- TitleLetter from Elizabeth Yorke to Lady Amabel, sent from Danbury military camp, Essex.
- Date free text18 Sep 1794
- Production dateFrom: 1794 To: 1794
- Scope and ContentInterested to hear from Lady Amabel’s letter that Mlle. De Hompesche had been left behind in Holland. The writer received a letter from Mlle. De Hompesche by the same post; she seems in good spirits and in expectation of profiting by a convoy which is to bring her over Lord & Lady Palmerston. The company of her brother seems to have made up for the delay. Reference to equinoctial winds. Writer is expecting her sister and Mr Barnard to cross the Irish Sea about this time. [Lady Anne, nee Lindsay, sister of the writer, was married to Andrew Barnard] In reply to Lady Amabel’s question, Lord Hardwicke informs that the yeoman cavalry of Cambridge are now at Huntingdon – good men, smart horses, smart uniforms – somewhat deficit as yet in firearms; and of their skill in warlike exercises, he is not sufficiently informed to give any account. Writer does not wish to prolong her stay, and if the weather grows bad, may take up lodgings in Town a few days sooner than proposed.
