  • Title
William King of Shillington, yeoman, one of the overseers of the poor, against Charles Simpkins of Shillington, labourer. Simpkins and four others had been to his house but he refused them relief saying there was work for them to go to. They then said "we'll be damned if we don't have some money before we go away". When he tried to send them away Simpkins said "I wish there were 7 or 8 more of us". They threatened "we'll do something before morning" and when King said he would send for the constables, they said "damn the constables we don't care for them". They stayed in the house until removed by the constables. Charles Simpkins should be ordered by the court to find sureties for his future good behaviour. See QSR1829/462-466.
