  • Scope and Content
Health of Lord Polwarth. Mention of Lady Hamilton's wedding. Accounts from Vienna are good - Philip gives satisfation to all. Account of the Emperors Court and the social events. 'I am no friend to a travelled education; at least if a young man must travel, I would rather that he should stay no longer in a place than just to observe the difference of manners and customs, and to see those objects of curiosity worth his attention.' Has heard thad Lady Polwarth has had the honour of standing godmother with the King of Denmark to a Nicean; wonders how this came about and whether there were any particlular ceremonies at the christening. Sons are well; daughter Caroline is at home, confined with chilblains. Writer went to Almacks last night 'it was dullish as usual.' Comments on the fashions.
