    (I) (a) ....“then turned into one cottage and in occupation of John Parkins; (b) newly erected cottage adjoining (a) and uninhabited; (c) land on which (a) and (b) were erected in Brickhill alias Little Field, Luton, formerly in the occupation of William Sandon, then William Brown then divided into gardens in occupation of various people with land formerly of Henry Layton NE; land of Marquess of Bute SW; land of Dunstable Charity NW; lane of highway SE and containing 2 acres, 2 roods, 10 poles Habendum: - to R March to the use of any deed of R Marsh; to the use of R Marsh for ever Covenant: - by J Everitt that he had good right to convey (II) Death of R Marsh intestate on 4 December 1869 leaving Ann as his widow and four surviving children of whom Frederick was eldest and his heir-at-law (III) Letters of administration granted to Frederick Marsh in Northampton DPR on 6 January 1870 (IV) Will of Frederick Marsh of Stopsley, gentleman, of 17 April 1872 appointing John Ephraim Kightly, Frederick Pates and David Pike executors and devising and bequeathing the residue of his estate to his “beloved” friend and companion, Robert Sharp, residing with him at Stopsley; (V) Death of Frederick Marsh on 9 June 1873 (VI) Will proved in DPP on 3 July 1873 (VII) Conveyance of 28 January 1876 Parties: (i) Robert Sharp; (ii) Ann Marsh of Luton, widow; (iii) John Ransom Marsh of Kendal [Westomeland], grocer; (iv) Robert Henry Marsh of Luton; (v) Edward Marsh of Luton; (vi) Ann Marsh; Alfred Robinson of Rose Bank, Lymm [Cheshire], velvet manufacturer; Richard Thomas Cooke of Luton, gentleman Reciting: - on his death Robert Marsh was seized of at property including (a)-(b) ; - (II); - (III); - on the death of Robert Marsh all freehold hereditaments descended to Frederick Marsh subject, as to the greater part, to right of dower of (ii); - (IV); - (V); - (VI); - on 22 September 1874 (i) delivered to Inland Revenue an account of his succession in real estate derived from Frederick Marsh, showing a saleable value of £6,190 and gross rack rental of £322/14/1, total annual value of deductions of £122/12/6 (including £81/14/9 for dower of (ii) - net annual value £200/1/6; duty being assessed at £348/4/9 of which he paid the first and second of eight half-yearly instalments on 17 November 1874; on 9 June and 9 December 1874 the sums of £87/14/4 became due including 13/2 interest; - (i) became 21 on 24 September 1875; - (i) had been “fully fully advised upon the matters aforesaid” and had agreed with (ii) that on receiving £2,000 and upon (ii) and (iii) executing a conveyance of certain hereditaments therein mentioned not affecting (a)-(b), he would convey (a)-(b) to (vi) Operative Part: - (vi) paid £2,000 to (i); - in consideration of conveyance noted above (i) conveyed property including (a)-(b) to (vi) Property: (a) “seventhly all those” five cottages in Dallow Lane, Luton; (b) land on which (a) was built in Brickhill alias Little Field, Luton in occupation of William Sandon, then William Brown, then divided into gardens occupied by various people, land formerly of Henry Layton NE; land late of Marquess of Bute SW; land of Dunstable Charity NW; lane of highway SE and containing 2 acres, 2 roods, 10 poles with two cottages standing thereon in 1851 Habendum: - to the use of (vi) upon trusts not abstracted Note: Luton News of 14 June 1873 noted: the will of the late Mr Frederick Marsh is the talk of the town. By his will, we hear, the mother of the deceased is to be deprived of house and home, an instance of filial affection rarely witnessed. The lucky person in whose favour the will is drawn is a servant who has been employed for a year or more in the capacity of personal attendant, as a sort of groom and private secretary”.
