Information of Joseph Pack of Bolnhurst, labourer and horse-keeper to Thomas Chapman of Bolnhurst, husbandman: before setting off with his team, went into the chest in his bedroom for money. The money was there but articles of clothing were missing. Enquired at the Plough, Bolnhurst, before coming to Bedford. Went to Mr Gamby, a pawnbroker, who knew nothing; then to Mr Franklin, second-hand clothes dealer, who had been offered the clothes but refused to buy them; then to Mr Partridge's, Cauldwell Street, whose wife had refused to buy them; then to Mr Allanson in St John's, who also refused to buy; then went to several shops in White Horse Street but could find nothing. The following Sunday he went to Mr Gery's, the justice, but he was away, so he continued to Kimbolton but there was no magistrate there. He eventually obtained a warrant from General Onslow to search the house of Richard Newill, brother of Robert Newill, of Great Gidding, Huntingdonshire, but this was again unfruitful. On his way back he heard in the Waggon and Horses, Catworth, that a young man with a bundle of clothes had lodged there one night.
