Memo from R M Dykes, Medical Officer of Health, Luton Borough to Dr W C V Brothwood, County Medical Officer, asking if consideration could be given to the requisition of a site for a [child welfare] clinic in the Sundon Park area; 22 September 1961
Memo from A R Darlow to Dr Brothwood: 'The present population of Sundon Park is 5,626. 175 - 200 houses are being built in the next 12 months but there are no plans for development after that. The number of occupants of the houses is expected to be above the national figure of 3.2. The nearest clinic is Leagrave, about 2 1/2 miles away. There are other clinics at Stopsley and Round Green'; 27 September 1961
Memo from Dr Brothwood to County Architect mentions Luton is likely to become a County Borough shortly... 'although there is no present need [for a clinic], it would be reasonable to make provision for the future'; 11 October 1961
Memo from County Architect to James A Murch, Engineer and Surveyor, Luton Rural District Council; 'From past practical experience, I have found that a Branch Library and a Clinic function very well when they are sited together... I should be most grateful to know if a site could be acquired on the vacant land opposite the new Branch Library'; 20 October 1961

final memo 'the provision of the proposed Clinic is now being dealt with by the Luton Corporation, Consideration has been given to the Luton Authority taking over Health Services in April 1964, and it was agreed that they should deal with the initial site negotiations'; 15 October 1963
