  • Scope and Content
Pleased that Lord Polwarth is well, hopes he will be able to bear the fatigues of the ensuing early campaign. Details plans; is to accompany 'my dear Yorke' to Harwich next Tuesday, and the following week to pay respects at Wrest, after that a fortnight at Hamels. No plans for autumn, but hopes to see Lady Polwarth at Wimple [Wimpole]. Reference to Lady Mary, who visited Lady Polwarth. The writer gave her a 'farmers dinner' last Monday with Lord Hardwicke and Lady Grey. Lady Grey ate very little, but she seldom does eat anything. Mr Yorke has gone to Wrest today and will stay till Saturday. Tittenhanger is in high beauty, and its courts are filled with young partridge and guines chicks. Lady Beauchamp has been staying. She has thoughts of taking a house in the neighbourhood which will be let next summer. While Lady Beauchamp was staying, they went to the Assize Ball at Hertford. The Miss Gores also attended. . They were attended by Mr Yorke and Mr Weston. Other attendees were Lord and Lady Cranbourne, Lady Elizabeth Capel Lady Essex, Lady Hatton and Lady Henage Finch, Miss Monsons, etc. Charles has arrived home for the holidays a tall awkward, unmanageable schoolboy. Caroline is in good health at Mrs Terry's. Sorry to hear of Lady Marchmont's illness; thinks Tunbridge would be of use to her, or sea bathing. Reference to writings of Lady Polwarth. Sends compliments to Lord and Miss Gregory.
