  • Scope and Content
Has not yet arrived at the sea side, but on 'Monday seven night' will take up residence at Great Yarmouth 'a most disagreeabloe place, which has nothing tolerable to it but its near neighbourhood to my sister.' Describes going to look for lodgings and a storm. Mentions having been in Oxford - ...I was fatugued to death and had scarce time to eat or sleep. Have Miss Betty Jeffreys and Mrs Margaret Jeffreys in our party. Pleased to hear Lord Polwarth has found gravel for Marchmont House [near the former village of Polwarth in Berwickshire, Scotland] 'it must be terrible to have nothing but high grass to walk upon.' Fears that Amabel may find the place too agreeable and forget she is an Englishwoman. Has heard of Amabel entertaining 25 people at dinner; writer considers large company at dinner to be disagreeable. Hope the weather will be temperate for Amabel's visit to the Highlands. Has not been able to visit Lady Grey at Wrest this summer. Caroline [daughter] is well; writer left Joseph and Charles [sons] quite well. Sir William Beauchamp does not seem to have received any benefit from Bath; he and Lady Beauchamp send compliments. [William Beauchamp-Proctor, married to wirter's sister, Laetitia.]
