    Declaration of trust “in relation to the custody, user, presentation of and further additions to the mayoral chain by the current mayor Fred Turner Garrett and past mayors: Charles Stockdale Benning (1865); Benjamin Bennett (1871); William Henry Derbyshire (1879); Richard Barton (1883); Gilbert Sinkwell (1885, 1891); Augustus Morcom (1890); John Buttfield Hill (1892, 1893); Arthur Edward Langridge (1894, 1895) and Walter Love (1896) and the following representatives of past mayors: George Osborn (representative of Joseph Osborn, 1865); Elizabeth Sarah Staines (representative of Joseph Gutteridge 1867); Samuel Burges (representative of Samuel Burges 1868); James Jardine (representative of William Jardine 1869); William Thomas Milligan (representative of William Milligan 1870); Henry Edward Limbrey (representative of John Henry Limbrey 1874); Henry Brown (representative of Edwin Wildman Brown 1875) and Henry Herbert Hambling (representative of William James Hambling 1880, 1881, 1887, 1888, 1889) Declaration: - the parties assigned their interest in the chain to Charles Crichton Stuart Benning of Dunstable, solicitor and town clerk in trust; - the parties were entitled to use the chain during their year of office; - the mayor for the time being was entitled to user of the chain during his year in office subscribing at least £2/10/- to provide an additional link; - the town clerk may demand to be informed of the whereabouts of the chain; - no alteration to be made to the chain except a link inscribed with name and date; - any question concerning the chain to be answered at a subscribers’ meeting Witnesses: - Henry Sergeant, clerk to Benning & Son of Dunstable, solicitors; - Henry Card of North Street, Lewes [Sussex], late county surveyor; - Arthur Joseph Staines of 65 Lewisham Park [London], builder and contractor; - Gilbert D Lewey of 10 King’s Bench Walk, Temple [London],clerk to James Jardine QC; - W Harry Barcroft, schoolmaster of Upper Villiers Street, Northampton; - J A Nares of 45 High Road, Kilburn [London] bank accountant
