- Scope and ContentA pencil-written draft of a letter to Frank Phillips [a BBC announcer, son of Dr Phillips of The Limes and maternal grandson of Rector Sharpin of Millbrook] written in the 1950s: "Sometimes when I hear your voice or see your face on the television, my mind jumps back to about 1903 when I was driving the first car I made down the Woburn Road toward Ampthill, near the Westminster pond and railway tunnel and saw a couple of young ladies on the path and a dog wandering in the road. I could not pull up (brakes were not too good at that date) so I was forced to pass over the dog and owing to plenty of under clearance, managed to miss the dog altogether, the ladies shrieked naturally. One I am told was your mother. As they were daughters of Archdeacon Sharpin of Millbrook Rectory. I did not enjoy my first experience and did not stop. Maybe I am wrong, who knows now. Hope your mother is still alive and well. I retired just on 8 years ago, have worked hard and really still enjoy life. My wife and I between us have lived over 162 years. Best of luck."
