Parties:
(i) William Alington of Little Barford, esquire;
(ii) Rev Charles Alington of Little Barford, clerk
Reciting:
- marriage settlement of 21-22 September 1825 between (1) Rev John Alington, clerk (father of (i) and (ii)); (2) Eliza Frances Plumer; (3) John Williamson (grandfather of John Alington); (4) Thomas Hall Plumer and Rev Charles Atmore Ogilvie; (5) William Turton and (6) John Jenkins made previous to the marriage of (1) and (2) in which the manor of Little Barford was settled by (3), subject to life interest of (1) and payment of an annuity of £300 to (2), to the use of the first son of the marriage of (1) and (2) and remainders in tail male;
- John and Eliza Frances Alington had John Alington born 29 September 1824; (i) born 6 April 1826; Henry Alington born 23 July 1831 and (ii) on 22 April 1833 “besides other issue”;
- will of John Williamson of 21 January 1827, reciting that he had settled the manor and advowson of Little Barford on his grandson and his issue, devised his manors in Stotfold and Letchworth [Hertfordshire] and all real estate, freehold and copyhold, in Letchworth, Willian, Great Wymondley, Graveley, Stevenage, Norton, Weston and Clothall [all Hertfordshire], Stotfold and Arlesey together with the advowson of Letchworth to the use of his son-in-law William Alington and William’s brother Marmaduke (both now dead) in trust for his grandson John Alington for his life, remainder to (i), remainder in tail male provided that if (i) became entitled to actual possession or receipt of rents and profits of the Manor of Little Barford then the estates in Letchworth, Willian, Great Wymondley, Graveley, Stevenage, Norton, Weston, Clothall, Stotfold and Arlesey should be held in trust for the next beneficiary [i.e. (ii)]; the testator authorised sale of any estates and purchase of other land with the money;
- codicil to the will of John Williamson of 27 June 1830 reciting agreement with Lord Spencer for purchase of freehold estate in Marston Moretaine, Lidlington, Cranfield and Wootton and directing that if he did not live to complete the purchase it should be completed by his executors and devising the estates in the same manner as those in Letchworth and Stotfold;
- John Williamson died on 4 July 1830 and his will and codicil were proved on 26 July 1830 in PCC;
- lease and release of 23 and 24 March 1831 between (1) George John, 2nd Earl Spencer (2) William Alington (son-in-law of John Alington the testator); (3) William Alington and Marmaduke Alington in which estates in Lidlington, Marston Moretaine, Cranfield and Wootton were conveyed to (3);
- Eliza Frances Alington died on 21 June 1838;
- John Alington, eldest son of John and Eliza Francis died a bachelor on 23 December 1845 in his father’s lifetime;
- Henry Alington, third son of John and Eliza Frances died 29 March 1864 a bachelor;
- John Alington, father of (i) and (ii) died 11 December 1863 entitling (i) to actual possession of the Manor of Little Barford when all other real estate in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire became held in trust for Henry Alington and, on his death, for (ii);
- indenture of 17 May 1864 [AN41/4] between (1) (ii) and (2) Thomas Widdows as his trustee of all lands in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire except the Manor of Little Barford;
- indenture of 22 August 1865 between (1) (ii) and (2) (i) in which (1) granted to (2) the Manor of Marston Moretaine and lands in Marston Moretaine, Cranfield, Lidlington and Wootton

- (i) covenanted with (ii) to produce deeds to properties in Letchworth, Willian, Great Wymondley, Graveley, Stevenage, Norton, Weston, Clothall, Stotfold and Arlesey
