  • Scope and Content
A handwritten letter in pencil from Hannah Austin in Midhurst, Sussex to Albert Grimmer in Ampthill dated 24th November 1935: "Dear Mr Grimmer, Once again I have to thank you for you kind letter and enclosed cheque, please find enclosed the usual 5/- receipt for same. Glad to know that you and all the family are well and hope this includes the little grandchild, by now I expect his is quite interesting. As far as business goes you seem to be progressing. I am so glad, you richly deserve all you get and by people that have known you so long still come back to you all speaks for itself. I mean over like Mr Wingfield etc. I was surprised to see how long Miss Handby had been with you, she has my congratulations and I for one hope she will be with you as long again. You may of heard my sister has retired institution life and lives in her own home, not 5 minutes walk from me. She came out on August 1st and as you can imagine we spend a deal of our time together. She still keeps her car and is her own driver so when weather permits we get some nice outings. It was 12 months yesterday since Mr Field died, don't time fly. We as a family are all very well. Glad you are able to see Mr Wolveridge sometimes. I am sure he enjoy seeing you. I hope they are happy in their new home. What is Douglas doing now? I hope he is able to run the car if so that would take him out. We have had a lot of rain this way, but today have glorious sunshine, but cold. We shall soon have Christmas here and should I not be writing again before then, you have my best wishes for a happy time when it comes. I did hear Mr Jeffs was about retiring. I do not know if he has already done so. I hope Mr Webber is well and you see him sometimes. With my kindest regards to you and all the family. Faithfully yours, H Austin"
