- Scope and ContentAn undated handwritten letter to Albert Grimmer from his brother Herbert [some words difficult to interpret]: "Hurstcroft, Ascot, Thursday Dear A, Req. tyres safe today. Where are the 23 cones and water part I left with you, I guess I'll get that .... together some time. .... are alright, will you send 7 labels for me by return. Those Pratts emptys, enclosed you will find a cheque for £5, will you do me a kindness and send one N Ward of Bedford for 5.13.0 in the course of a day or two, hasn't N.W. paid up yet. I think it's about time as I might be getting interest on cash eh. Its layed still long enough and now re that cash dad 'as, he is very unwilling to sell things and of course you remember I promised not to sell unless forced. He owes me now a matter of about 27 or 8 pound and perhaps you rem you said at the time you would be the larger of half if I didn't get it, well now this is strict .... perhaps you know I advanced. But as for .... when they left Ampthill and on making enquiries at Royston find that they have managed to get into dad's debt to the tune of £20. They also owe that 7.10.0. from before which is roughly the amount he dad owes me. Now Bert is insured for £50 which policy is finished in about 6 years time and I'm wondering if I was to take the ..... 3 and hold it. I should be sure of getting my money from both when it expires. I respect I should have to pay the foreman 13/- a quarter as what I see of Bert he's only getting worse of course. I'd get the lot back in the end but what I want to ask you is if I do take it and then find some time that I cannot meet the premium, would you pay it? I myself think it would make us all sure, you see it would then be dad owing me, nothing Bert owing dad nothing but owing me 27.10.0 and what I lent them and when the policy expired I should draw the lot I'd lent premiums I had paid and interest which I'm not getting from dad, of course if dad made money and wanted to pay me and take over the debt again I'd be willing eh. Let me know what you think and if you would agree to help with premiums which you would get back later, as quickly as poss. Hope all are well, don't know if you'll understand this but I've had to run away two or three times so may have mixed it a bit. Love to all from us both. Yours affectionate Brother, H R Grimmer"
