“Excuse my troubling you with a question of some historical insight for me and my husband whose great-grandmother was a Stafford and who left, in her manuscripts, the information about her ancestors which I here enclose in form of a little pedigree. My husband Mr William Allen Hanbury has heard of you writing about the Stafford family some years ago, without having had the opportunity of reading what it was, but the news made us sure that you would know much about the different branches of the old Stafford family, and that perhaps you might be able to help us in finding out how the first Stafford on the enclosed sheet, who evidently was of good position in England before 1640, how he was connected with the or with one of the other of the main lines”. “For any information on the subject we should feel very grateful and much pleased”
