  • Scope and Content
I went down from London bridge and found no boarding-house where anyone could get into without paying a week's board, 15s.; the sailors' home is just the same. I shall go to Victoria docks again and see what chance there is. I know it seemed an aweful parting for dear Mother - it touched my heart that I could not speak, but do try and get over it, Mother, and poor Father too. Sarah Ann asked me if I was going to write to them girls. I am writing to Jane Wilson. I am leaving off drinking as well as I can, and wish there never had been any, then you would have thought more off me. I know it is my own fault.
