Note the original bundle order has been retained. The deed packet is confusing in its layout but the history is as follows: the estate purchased by the Duke of Bedford in 1754 from William Jones was, essentially, the former estate of Robert Palmer comprising lands he had bought from various people - principally: a farmhouse and adjacent land with land in Windmill Field which had been held by the Palmer family since at least 1564; land acquired from Mathew Watts in 1700; land, originally belonging to Mathew Watts, acquired from Katherine Palmer in 1717; land acquired from Thomas Atwells by mortgage in 1708; land, originally of John Holloway, acquired from Joseph Cotton in 1724. Robert Palmer sold his land to Oliver Edwards in 1734 [R6/14/12/42], the land passed on Edwards’ death to his wife, who then married William Jones.
