  • Scope and Content
Have been for 6 weeks under painful anxiety about Charles Lefevre. Two months ago he had violent attack of bilious fever & till last 10 days little hope of getting over it - now daily, slowly gaining ground. Degree of weakness beyond description, when first admitted was shocked to see him helpless as child, skin & bone. Cannot yet stand alone, each time I hope I see improvement. Physicians said convalescence would be slow, however, no further check. Another subject for thankfulness, safety of Daughter Elizabeth, who 10 days ago added fourth Daughter & seventh child to her family. Emma too has not suffered from attendance on husband, never saw her looking better, & happy, gratitude for having been spared the threatened trial!! Dined with Brother yesterday. He is also happy, in safety of youngest Daughter Elizabeth, who presented Son & Heir to the family of Bulteel. Lady Grey appears better but still delicate & needs care. The Calcotts gone abroad for year, have seen the pair together & separate. Miss Grant & I thought there was an air of contentment & happiness at their lot, perhaps her energy will be of use to him, certainly in present in excursion thro' Germany & Italy. She was busy with some publication upon Spain.
