Falling numbers at Brickhill and Parkwood Middle Schools resulted in the proposal to merge the schools and establish a new 600 place Beauchamp Middle School on the Parkwood site. The new work was conceived as a series of extensions added to the perimeter of the existing building form. The work was planned in 1991 and seems to have been completed by 1993. As part of the move by Bedford Borough Council from a three to a two tier system of schools, the school closed in 2017 and merged with the adjoining Scott Lower School as a new primary school.
