  • Scope and Content
Boyle is informed by Mr Collingdon that the company who will be willing to take a sum in reduction of their mortgage without notice is the Equitable Office; The Pelican would not consent to do so. At one o'clock on Saturday Crawley's money had not been paid into the account at Coutts.; the writer would not be surprised if the whole amount of interest due is paid with the principal. Sends certificate and note for signature and forwarding to Collingdon at Cardiff. Another docement requires signing and forwarding to Richards at Cardiff; this relates to the bridge at Cardiff. Explains that last year the county proposed to lay out £2,000 to improve Cardiff bridge. Corbett, the land steward, and Richards considered it would be of benefit to the town if the approach to the bridge from the town was altered and improved, by which additional space and privacy could be provided to the Castle grounds. It seemed to them that it would also be better to build a new bridge rather than repair the existing old bridge. It was proposed that the trustees pay for the works, and the county magistrates agreed with the proposal. A sum of £500 towards the additional expense was agreed by Cardiff Corporation, and it was agreed that the trust would finance the remainder. The final cost was £3,000, so the trust has to pay £500. 'This unhappy country is once more without a government.' Writer gives his views on the political situation. Lady Bute not now likely to come to London at present.
