  • Scope and Content
'I have no wish to annoy Lord James - my object is....to oblige him to do what is right and act legally.....but I shall not act precipitously and I am not doing anything at present. Forwards a letter from Lady Bute 'it pains me, and I am very sorry that she is so minded and so clearly decided once again to resume payment to Lord James of the annuity which she paid him for some time.' Need to decide whether to continue to pay Lady Bute £500 a quarter from the Welsh funds, or to reduce it to £250. Writer considers £500 should continue to be paid. However, when the allowance was increased from £1,000 to £2,000 per annum, they believed that Lady Bute was paying it to Lord James, and now discover she does not do so any longer. Discusses legal opinion on the matter.
