Examples: provide pots of plants should they be needed; get written documents from persons who have been successful with any crops and grown great weights per acre to as to have a backer in argument; get good opinions on which are the best cattle, sheep, etc. so as to be furnished with conversation and to make your own observations on the different merits; have bills of persons likely to be there in case they are called for; have change of shoes or boots in box; extra clothing; cards in abundant number provided in good time as we have nearly always been obliged to send home for more; prices of articles ascertained correctly a week previous; two small neat boards with drawing of plough on top corresponding as near as possible to the one at shop and name provided by a good painter to put at each end of stand; sail cloth bags provided to lay over grating below to prevent draught coming up. List of grasses, crops and vegetables, including three kinds of swedes, yarrow, burnet, parsley, chicory, Melitot, spurry, spring tares, Mangel Wurzel, Drumhead cabbage, rape, buck wheat, furze, broom. Note of times to sow various seeds.
