Anonymous: when Admiral Gambier left Copenhagen, the British property unprotected was twice the value of that brought away. Captain Stopford left his station, declaring the Danish blockading ships had struck & were laid up for the winter, but within 2 days they were out. Advice of Russian merchants who knew conditions was not taken.
