"113 Queens Road, Richmond, Surrey. Dear kind Miss Ira-Smith, Do forgive me not writing before, you have been in my thoughts always but I seem to have such a little time lately, I know you will forgive me. I send you £1 for a Christmas gift and hope you will be able to get something you like and some sweets for you and your dear Mother - my best wishes to you and her for a very happy time and may you both have many gifts. We have not had the fowl yet but it may come yet, it is so kind of you to say you could let me have another after Christmas, I should be grateful to you for it - things have been tiresome to get at times. I do hope you and your dear Mother well in spite of the weather. I will let you know when the registered chicken arrives. I wonder how your cat gets to run, I hope quite well. It is very cold here and it looks like snow. My poor eys do not like it, indeed neither my body. Heaps of love to you and your dear Mother mixed with all good wishes for this Holy time - what beautiful services we used to have. Your loving older friend, Florence.E.Eagles"
