"Dear Miss Ira-Smith,
At last we are settled in and at home!
The men doing the electric fittings, the men cutting and putting down carpets, the men fixing mirrors and putting up pictures, have gone, and we are at peace. The Miss E's have stood up to it all wonderfully, and are delighted with their lovely house.
Yesterday we decided it was time to have a break: so we went along to the Richmond Theatre to a play, and then on to the Castle Hotel for dinner afterwards, walking home over Richmond Hill.
Thanks so much for the papers which have come the day after you posted them. We were interested in the account of the presentation. In the course of unpacking, I found two more curtains to match those I gave you, so I am sending them on. Unfortunately there is no pelmet! But it will be nice to have both windows with the same curtains, or if you already have both windows alike, to have two extra ones to fall back upon.
The glorious sunshine still goes on. I am driving my car up to Yorkshire next week to put it in storage in my father's garage, as the one here will not take both our cars. But I shall not be passing through Ampthill, as it is off the direct route.
We all send our love and hope you are well.
Yours sincerely,
John Hillam
P.S. We miss your eggs! If you ever have a chicken to spare, just pack it up and send it, with price attached and we shall be only too glad to have it anytime!"
