- Scope and ContentHeaded: "Hoscote, Hawick, Roxburghshire, Borthwickbrae 217" "Dear Miss Grimmer, You may be wondering at this strange handwriting, but we met, many years ago at Kingsgate Castle, a lovely summer's day, when you were staying at Cliftonville. I am writing in case you did not know of the sudden death of "Bill" - whom you called John if I remember. It was a tremendous shock to all his friends, as he was so healthy and active, both in body and mind. But it was as he wished, no lingering illness, pain or deterioration of faculties. We, my husband, daughter (who was his god-daughter) and I went to his funeral at Scruton, Yorkshire. His old friend, dating from their curacies in London, the Bishop of Birmingham, took the address, and then we went to Darlington as he wished to be cremated and his ashes scattered. Bill's death is a sad loss to us and the realisation of it is difficult to believe but his strong personality lives on and we have joy in remembering happy times. Bill often spoke of your kindness in writing to him so faithfully all the years, so I know that you will feel this too. With all good wishes, Yours sincerely, Pearl Stavert"
