  • Admin/biog history
Acquired by the Guardians for use as a Children's Home in 1910. Closed for adaptations in 1951 re-opened in 1952 as a special reception centre. In July 1970 there was accommodation for 26 boys and girls whose ages could range from 3 to 17. The Lodge was used as a place of safety and children could be sent there instead of to a remand home. Once a decision was made as to the type of placement it could take some time before the plan could be put into effect and some children had to remain quite a long time there. Proposals for additions and improvements were due to be made in 1971/72. Index cards in SS/DP/1/1/4 include The Lodge, 80 Bunyan Road, Kempston.
