Discusses two Commissions. Firstly, Mr. Hughes who is not quite so near the top of the list as he thinks but he may be sure of advancement when it is his turn. Secondly, Mr. Mainwaring we cannot quite so well tell what to do with because he has so often shifted his ship and situation but my Lord will endeavour as much as he can to keep him in ships to receive full pay. Downing Street, 30 August. Has come here “through the Fiery Trial of Lichfield Races”. Her brother James and Mr. Anson join in compliments. Shugborough, 14 September [c1757].
