Erasmus Middleton was one of six students expelled from the university of Oxford in March 1768 for praying, reading and expounding the Scriptures. He was ordained in Scotland and took up a post as Pastor in Dalkeith where he met his wife. He moved to London with positions in Chelsea and Westminster and became well known for his Biographia Evangelica published in 4 volumes. He took up post as Rector of Turvey in 1804 and died in 1805.
