  • Scope and Content
Mostly concerned with his stay in Paris. Mentions visiting the opera, theatre and Louvre; purchasing China and silks for Henrietta; and being surprised by “the great scarcity of handsome women here”. He severely criticises their dress, commenting “their Bonnets and head dresses are nearly a yard high, the most ridiculous things you ever saw...Their gowns too are put on like sacks.” Also mentions the departure of Bonaparte for Elba; the movement of troops; and his hopes that Lord Wellington will visit Paris. His own plans remain uncertain.
