"Many thanks for your letter and the May magazine. The meeting passed off very well last Friday, better than I expected, in fact. There are one or two flatowners who do not like the idea of forking out £1000 to support two flats in danger of falling into the sea. They think the latter should fork out more. However, it was decided we all must pay an equal share in view of the conditions laid down in the Covenant. The principal engineer in charge of the cliff project was in attendance, with the estimates from contractors. We chose the cheapest one, of course! But it means that we must all provide £1000 per flat, and our contributions have to be in by the end of this month. the work is to be begun on July 1st, and will take about 21 weeks. Most of the terrace will be taken up, and will be out of bounds. It will be a great relief when it is over and done with. I leave here on Friday for Winchester, to spend the weekend with the Norburys. Then I shall cross over to France from Southampton. I expect to be back here in July, bringing with me two boys - distant cousins. On August 7th. I go up to Yorkshire, and from there to Hoscote, where I shall stay until September. From there, I hope to get to Liverpool to stay with Laurie Brown (Bishop of Warrington) before returning to Kingsgate. It is still cold and rainy here. We do have to wait a long time in England for the spring to get under way! I wonder if it is any better in Normandy. Yours sincerely,"
