  • Scope and Content
Therese's letter to Fritz with a sample of the "enormous, savage & ridiculous" headdresses in fashion. Hope Nanny back into her old routine, Therese's accounts of Mr. Parker indicate as much. Confusion on the part of the Embassadors over a notice summoning them to the birth. They all left in a hurry taking it to be the actual notice not the usual formality. Grantham told them of their mistake but followed them anyway, not wishing to be the only one not there. Therese wrote of the Exchange with Mr. Montagu/e [Parker]. They will miss Whiteway on every journey. No knowledge of what kind of woman Mrs. Montagu is. Heard John [Johnson] was going to Lord Shelburne’s, hopes it will turn out well for him [see also L30/17/4/89 & 97 and L30/14/315/4 & 27] . First journey without Beylie. He was not missed. Delapierre serves well. Waddilove setting out at the end of the month, likely to be delayed by the amazing call for the Posthorses in France for the [Sa-ee??] at Rheims. Glad to hear from him that Newby [Park] is in beauty etc...Aranjuez dull at present.
