Yes, the ship's Captain (with whom I have become great friends) and I drove out here yesterday to lunch, a really fine sight. I am helping him with his English and he me with my Italian. I am the only passenger since San Francisco: 10 join us there for Genoa on the return trip. Meanwhile I am one of the officers' family. I was royally entertained in Los A. and S.F. by various friends and look forward to seeing them again. Colder here than further south, but plenty of sunshine. I enjoyed the heat of the Caribbean and Panama. I hear you have plenty of snow. J.H."
