    St. Ildephonso at end of week, disagreeable journey. Court less gay than usual due to ill success of expedition against the Africans. Also Princess of Asturias not well. Colonel Ross has gone there. Baird will visit them there later. The Nuncio's coach only, expected before Waddilove and Tom Pelham. Waddilove has problems with a turnpike road to pass near his house. Visited Madame Wertheren [sic], room dark, so couldn't tell if she was handsome etc. Husband formal and absurd. Not likely their society will be a resource this winter. Baird saw Madame Viry who is grown fatter than ever. Organizing fêtes “against the marriage” of the Prince of Piedmont with one of theKing of France's sisters. Supposes Viry no loser by all these intermarriages. Yranda [Aranda?] has left England but is not coming directly to Spain. Fernan Nuñez's wound a slight one, can't tell if he's at liberty to come to Madrid. His sister much alarmed. She grows every day more devôte. Remember him to the Aislabies.
