  • Scope and Content
The No. 172 Court of the Independent Order of Foresters Friendly Society was formed in February 1964. Its local activities included fundraising for Bedfordshire charities and organising social events for its members. As membership grew a dedicated Section for female members was formed as were specialist Sections for members interested in hobbies such as gardening, photography, bowling, camping and caravanning and motoring. Much of the Court's initial activity focussed on the Luton area but membership often came from much further afield. Two new courts eventually split from Court Woburn: Court Wandlebury Beech in 1971 (for members in Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire) and Court Aspen Water in 1979 (for members in Bedford and Northampton).
