  • Scope and Content
Hopes their tour went well [Katherine Gertrude Robinson & Miss Harris]. Arrived at Cranbourne on Saturday, had two days with Lord Boringdon [her nephew] who has now left for Devonshire, as has poor little Henry. Mrs Villiers and all the children look very well. Before leaving Town [Anne Robinson] had one of her spasms and a “shy fitt”; wrote to Mrs Villiers asking to be excused the visit being “old, nervous and foolish”. They wouldn’t let her off, she’s now glad she came. Returning to Town in 2-3 weeks for a week with Lady Mary, when she goes to Ham [Anne Robinson] will go to Malling. Lady Mary well but low, will be the worse for A. Robinson’s leaving as she can read to her, which Lady Sydney cannot, latter also in constant worry which wears Lady Mary out. Lady Sydney angry at A. Robinson’s leaving Lady Mary, but the former has been in Town since December and wanted the trip to Cranbourne. Reading Mrs Carter’s letters and Miss Talbot’s. Lady Mary knew Mrs Vesey and says she was such a foolish woman she has no patience with Mrs C--- for flattering and complimenting her so and wouldn’t let her [Anne Robinson] read them before, so she’s taking the opportunity now. Read Mr Townsend’s Tour in Spain when first published 20 years previously but obliged for her offer of it. Author brother to Alderman Townsend and was at Saltram once, very odd man. Mr Villiers has found out nothing about the Robbery. Lady Chichester was at Eden Farm and is now assumed to be at Stanmer, thinks the child, a boy, recovered and is with them [the child is Katherine Gertrude Robinson’s nephew].
