- Scope and ContentEnquiring after her now Mrs Villiers has left Town “(I hope for good)”. Hopes she finds Miss Louisa Harris [?Louisa, her sister] well at Durnford. Sorry they missed each other in Town. Was hoping to have gone to Windsor next week with Lady Mary and Lady Sydney, as Miss Townsend is with Lady Chatham, but Lady Sydney changed her mind and doesn’t want to leave Miss Townsend and Lady Chatham in Town alone. A. Robinson is sad as, in Windsor, she would have been nearer to Cranbourne and Mrs Villiers & the children, however Lady Mary is probably better in her own house than in her small room at Windsor. Lord Boringdon [John Parker, their nephew] is still in Town, goes to Cranbourne Saturday and Yorkshire next week. May call on Cousin Peggy, wants to know whether she’s in York or Dishford. Glad his disagreeable business is over for the time being. He is well as is little Henry etc… Walked to Stratton Street after Church. Aired with Lady Chichester in the open carriage, she expects to give birth soon and is feeling better now the children are all well at Stanmer. Good accounts from Malling. Heard a good account of their company at Park Place from Thomas alias Caleb Sherring. Thinks Lord Malmesbury dines at Cranbourne on Saturday. Asks her to recommend new reading material. Has read many old novels, heard of a new one coming out called ‘Woman’. Lady Bath has died worth “a quantity of riches”. Heard from Miss C. Anguish, she made no will since she first married and therefore Sir James has nothing but for his wife, she said a vast sum of money came to the Dean of York’s (George Markham) children by his wife who misbehaved. Thinks she is now dead. Lord and Lady Grantham arrived at Scarborough according to the newspapers. The Dowager called on her way to Wrest [Bedfordshire].
