    p.1a) a breviat of Salphobury leases; prior of Newnham leased Salph manor to Henry Joye of Meppershall for 63 years; 1536 b) H Joye assigned residue to John Joye of Renhold, 1543 c) John Joye had 2 sons, William and Richard, and assigned to William: ½ Bury Field and lands, tenements etc. 1551 d) Covenant of John Joye with Henry Pyckering and wife Alice to grant to Richard Joye and wife Elizabeth the other half of his farm [house?] of the Bury Field of Salpho, but this assurance was never made e) John Joye died, leaving William his executor. Richard occupied the premises and by will 1561 devised to his son William his part of the farm for unexpired term f) at the Dissolution Henry VIII granted the manor of Salpho to John Gostwick of Willington, esquire g) John Gostwick leased to John Johnson of Goldington 1560 his manor of Salpho and appurtenances in Renhold, Ravensden and Goldington Memorandum how he can prove that lease, because we think it to be antedated:- a) John Johnson made over his interest to William Joye 1564 b) William Joye conveyed to William Bridges of Northill, gentleman, except the site of Salph manor, 1568 p.2 c) William Bridges conveyed to Richard Scroggs, son of Oliver of Howbury 1580 d) William Gostwick bought the inheritance of the manor, whereunto are divers copyholders belonging, which William Gostwick made divers copies unto the tenants since the lease was conveyed to Joye. Quere [?Query]: if the copies be good; and whether a lessee for years of a manor may make copies; 1539/40 e) The prior made a lease to Richard Bishope and wife Joan of Flavels for 50 years; and after the Dissolution William Gostwick purchased the inheritance of the king; he made a lease to John Picke junior for 50 years from 1548; after which Bishop died; and Alexander Huett married his wife; by virtue of which he was possessed of the prior's lease; he then conveyed his interest "of both the said 1558 leases" to John Bosgrave; who died 1576; his executor was Thomas Ords, who entered on the lease f) "Note that I have not the grant from John Pyck to Alexander Hewet; whether do I think that he can prove any suche grant" g) William Joye has forfeited his copyhold for non-payment of rent h) John Rolt has forfeited his copyhold for committing waste i) Memorandum to enquire whether a tenant for years may build any dwellinghouse p.3 Alexander Scroggs had a lease for years of Howbury manor, which he purchased of Edward Py[ck/ckering?]; he conveyed this to his son Oliver, "being within age", but redeemable on payment of 4d; subsequently he bought the inheritance of John Gostwick, and granted his interest to his brother Anthony; and enfeoffed 4 co-feoffees of the inheritance; He [Alexander?] died, and since his death, Joan Scroggs, wife of Alexander and administratrix, tendered to Oliver and Anthony, her sons, 4d for the redemption of the lease. She then made over her interest to William Bridges, who being thereof possessed cancelled his lease; but yet he did not grant away his interest; and afterwards Joan Scroggs granted her interest to Anthony Jebbe, one of the feoffees, who died intestate; then she regranted her interest in the lease to Robert Willowes for her life, or during the minority of her son Oliver, or the longer liver of them. After this, one Richard Scroggs, uncle to Oliver, took out an administration for Anthony Jebbe, and granted interest thereunder to Oliver Scroggs, since which time Robert Willowes granted his interest to the said "W B and R S" [? William Bridges/Richard Scroggs] memorandum to enquire if his interest be good, whether the lease be drowned or no, because he was one of the feoffees [of?] Anthony Jebbe
