Dining at the French Embassador's and intending to go to the Opera. Has been at Council all morning, likely to sit de die in diem for some time. Went to their Aunts afterwards. Delighted with Dick [Worsley's] letter, enclosed for Fritz [not present]. To be forwarded to Mrs. Worsley then back to Grantham. Advertisement in 'papers for Moral and Sentimental Tales by J.W. C______ss of R__s__b___g. Taken to be Wynne Comtesse de Rosimberg. Wrote to T. [Thomas] Smith authorizing him to give two guineas for information about the linen theft. Mr. Belwood directed to hasten Braithwaite and direct Blanchard to begin leading the Lodge. Mrs. Carew has become a great walker. Her husband has seen the Duke of Richmond and has some hopes of his Place in Cornwall being spared. [Response to Fritz's letter just arrived] The Spanish Embassador has not taken S. T. Gideon's house. Thinks the Daltons may have been too many for Fritz. Sir Thomas Frankland engaged to Linley only a few weeks, heard Belwood highly spoken of, meant to have recommended him to his father, his brother-in-law Smelt thought him to be acquainted with Linley. Hoping to hear when Fritz starts his journey [south], not to rush. Lady Grantham sends love. Children all well. Compliments to Waddilove.
