  • Scope and Content
Met Mr. Neville at Lady Camelford's last night; related Sir Thomas Frankland's regret at not seeing Grantham and that he had been much influenced by Grantham's opinions (supposed via Colonel Wright) in not entering Parliament now. Frankland engaged Linley [bricklayer], however, Grantham has written in favour of Mickle and Belwood. Mr. Pitt declined the Borough probably due to being on the Eve of Reform. There are hopes of Vyner's voting right. Today's Dinner a sort of reconciliatory measure as the most active member of their Committee, during the Spring sitting, took exception to the rarely partial use made of their repast in which he had taken a considerable share. He refrained from further attendance but his advise was taken upon an important subject and a confidential intercourse has resumed. Several of Pitt's younger cronies at Lord Camelford's last night, except Wilberforce. "The Hats, bosoms and Rumps are preposterous". Fine weather, crossing the Park with Lady Grantham, to their Aunt's, thence to see the balloon in the Pantheon. Letter via Mr. Ley from Jack [nephew Parker] on his way to Hammersmith. Mr. Constable's £50 from their Aunt added to Mrs. Worsley's £30 makes £80 of which Ralph has had £15. [College] bill is £36, to be paid to Mr. Collyer on Monday. Arrangements concerning future expenses, essential to keep Ralph's head above water until he is in Orders. Mr. Constable disapproves of him going to Cambridge. Dick Acklom to marry Miss Barnard in Ireland with £10,000. Grantham thinks he just wants the ready money. General St. Leger rumoured to marry Mrs. Worsley, according to Rose Constable. Too good to be true according to Grantham. Lady Betty Mackenzie has been to see the children who behaved well. Received Fritz's letter, brief discussion about sleep patterns. Todd [son Thomas] now with Grantham as usual from four to five. Best Wishes to Waddiloves. Lady Grantham sends love.
