    Feeling confident Fritz's recovery is in sight, from his last letter. Letters from Nanny and Mrs. Worsley. The Egertons have or will soon file a Bill for foreclosure against Sir Jos. Making Mrs. Worsley a Defendant because of her Interest in the Estate. Wilmot will elucidate. Grantham wrote to her saying it will be better to get the affair over and done. Gl. St. Leger has suggested to her that Grantham apply for her to succeed Mrs. Mostyn at Hampton Court. Solely in the Gift of Lord Chamberlain however. Nanny wrote that they didn't go to Tedcot, Mrs. Ascott engaged. The pictures are to be so called "common three quarters". Warren's is not for Lord Boringdon. Jack sets out 20th for Hammersmith. Bishop of Chester [Beilby Porteus] called. Saw the boys. Had a visit in summer from Mason who "affirmed he had taken a decided part upon Conviction and lamented....coldness....between his best friends and himself, [Prominent in political agitation for reform and retrenchment 1780, but later became follower of Pitt - D.N.B.] Visited Lord Ashburnham, Lord St. Asaph, Bowens etc....Mr. J. Yorke thinks that Lord Hardwicke's memory is impaired, he is a good judge. Walked home from Hanover Square. Called at Silversmith's in Panton Street. Nice list of Plate. Can have four candlesticks [made] with some useless articles. Went to T. Payne's, desperate search, Bible given to Joseph has Joshua Allen's name in it, but being new bound has lost blank leaves which held names of all the children and of the Gossips. Has redeemed Bible and will make out a fresh Register from the letters there. Re-arranging his letters. Some should be burnt, Will look them over together. Irish Money coming 7 February and Ld. H's ten days after. Will pay Clifton money when due in Yorkshire etc... Jack the Postilion is going to better himself. Has a good Coachman but has had to ask him to slow down. Children go out regularly, sometimes to St. James' Square. "The Hospital est un bon Train. Many, horum causa Malerum, will not come back". Miss Ann, careless and conceited, retiring. Old Sue returning after visit to friends in Country etc.. Compliments to Waddilove et al.
