Fashionable to have the alphabet engraved on them. Saw Mr. Stewart, good painter, has painted Lord Boringdon, Lord Shelburne, Jarvis, Barington, Dr. Warren and some Americans. "He seems a Coxcomb and talks like Johnny Rushout, with as black a Beard". Writing to Nanny about the size etc; some of those they saw are for Lord Boringdon. Stewart was aware of their sitting for him. Has a fine portrait by Murillo. Jack [nephew Parker] coming up with Mr. Lee [Ley]. Attended the Play last night; sad stuff. Mrs. Siddons was very great. Lord Hardwicke accepts the Bratts [children] are too young to sit at a Painter's, trying to find one to draw or paint them at home. All well, the Elephant [trivial illness?] did no more mischief than they know of. Delapierre began to be asthmatical at St. Giles'. Frost and snow again. Grantham not reconciled to London etc... Grantham has imitated Fritz's embroidery on his latest suit. Fraser confirms there is no Messenger made and that John's pretension was entire. Paid Drummond five pounds for Udny etc.... In daily expectation of hearing from Ireland. Voting for the Representation. Thought that it will never pass. Received the summons from Lord Sydney. Has seen one of them nor the Pelhams. The St. Asaph's are to be presented on Thursday. The Grantham's are thinking of "treating" the Yorkes and the Dutch between the Birthday and the Meeting of Parliament, so that next week the Plate will come home and be weighed and catalogued. The King was surprized about the length of time being taken over Grantham's works. Want of ready money and determination to live there make it impracticable to proceed any faster. Princess Augusta to go to Denmark. Prince of Wales grows cross and poor, "teazed for money sadly". Wishes "Ld. B" [Boringdon] may get paid, curious to know if he has any assurance of it. Good letter from Jack [nephew Parker]. The last string of horses are set off. Has read Matty's Reviews, Sessions papers etc.. and has looked into Additional Volumes of the Tableau de Paris. Poor enough..... Intending to investigate their family tree. Oliver Cromwell mentioned. Ill done so far; makes their mother a Frankland and sister to their grandmother. No room in this packet to send Dick [Worsley's] letter to his mother. Droll. Hoping for his recovery. Compliments to Waddiloves' and best wishes for her confinement etc....
