Dear Mrs Mead,
It is with great sorrow and deep sympathy that I write to tell you of the dath of your son Sergt. E G Mead No 32195 who was killed in action on April 9th. He was shot through the head and so death was painless and instanteous. The battalion was attacking at the time.
He was a good N.C.O. to me and one whose place will be hard to fill. At the time he was in command of his platoon, as his officer was commanding the company. The latter was later wounded.
You may be comforted to hear that his death was not in vain as the battalion did extremly well, and were most successful.
May you be comforted at this time of your bereavement by Him who alone can comfort us in our troubles & watches over us for the best.
Yours sincerely
F C Williams Capt
Officer Commanding
