    From: 1784 To: 1784
  • Scope and Content
Received his last, sent it on to the Doctore [Waddilove?] by mistake, instead of one from Lord Howe. Explained enough of Lord Howe's in his own letter accompanying it. Darley [W's nephew] cannot be sent out to the 'Iptingenia'/HMS Iphigenia as ship full, ordered on board the 'Blenheim'. Nothing in Fritz's letter that the Doctor shouldn't see [not according to L 30/14/333/285!]. Proposes making another letter bag just for his letters to and from Boroughbridge. Visit to Studley and Hackfall possible in August. Phaeton arrived safely. Will take drive in it tomorrow if fine. Tod [son Thomas] dislikes it as it's arrival disrupted "his letters". Boys and Lady Grantham all well. Messrs. Belwood and Micle have been, both have orders to get in the bills. Update on progress at Newby. Much profusion in the creation and advancement in the Peerage. The lines in the Rooiad from the Simile are good. Thinks it is Fitzpatrick's. Account of Cook which Grantham thought was Lord Mulgrave's is Admiral Forbes. Pleased with whole work. Object of Expedition answered. Death of Cook interesting and meeting with the Russians more touching than comical.
