    Received his no. 19. Glad Nanny appears to have recovered. Other responses to Fritz’s letter. Payment for the Urn. Hoping to collect enough to discharge two debts without D’s [Draper’s?] knowledge. Fritz more likely to meet Creditors than he was before at Brooke’s. Munro to be paid off at the end of next month. Reference to Periods? Fritz the last but one, what may be done if well. Happy with account of dear children [niece and nephew Parker]. Account of cousin J. Worsely gives him a reason to write to Aunt Jemmy. Poor Lord Suffolk died a real sacrifice to hereditary Gout. Has given up all thoughts of the red cloth. Thanks for enclosure, everybody at the Pardo wished to see it. Copying it for M__o [Morino?] to have it engraved. Duchess of Alba and Penafil wear ribbands with Viva Keppel which Grantham liked better than the Torrecillas Bellepoule. Waddilove carried the visitors [Chatham et al] to the Saleses and to the top of Sa Cruz yesterday. Munro dined. Met Bayer at Don Gabriel’s Apartment after dinner and saw his collection of medals etc.. Detailed descriptions of Chatham’s, Conway’s and Captain Colt’s looks, personality etc.. Carlito Pignatelli, Carlisle mentioned. They have letters for Penafil and Alva from Godolso [?]. Wants Fritz to meet them when back in London. They are making waistcoats and shoes etc. Berthol’s death of an apoplexy. The Watermans (like the Duke of Richmond) succeeds him. 27 March 1779. Misses Fritz even when he has Company. Quoted him so often felt obliged to explain their close relationship. Visited Gazola on his own yesterday. Dined with visitors, walked to meet the Court, see troops. Lord Chatham’s arrival exiting curiosity. Music at the Penafil at night. Orchestra excellent but Madame Dos enchanting. Visitors well received upon being presented there. Grantham explained he could not take it upon himself to present Captain Colt which he understood. Presenting Chatham and Conway today [at Court presumably]. Further description of Colt, Chatham and Conway. Latter two inclined to Virtu and wish to see and learn. Munro dining with them hitherto, but now Court has arrived will be left to himself. Cold chicken salad and Punch at Grantham’s after the Penafils’. Grantham’s Coach being repaired, in the meantime has one from the Biscayen. Summer harness to be repaired also, the Sadler offered to take them in part payment of 20 pistoles towards a new set of 50. Is not supping or drinking tea at the moment. 28 [March 1779]. Received his no. 21 and 22 of 16 March. Very welcome they were. “Gleam of light arising from the thoughts that at all Events we shall meet etc...” Two occasions for more confidential discussion present themselves, a private conveyance may already have met him. The other by his present guests who promise to meet him. Presented Lord Chatham and Conway to H.C.M. [His Catholic Majesty] yesterday and to the Prince and Princess today. Music last night. Various other Dinner invitations. Dined with Marchetti today who Conway knew. Munro much pleased by Fritz’s attention to him etc. Busy time for Grantham socially, all very different to his usual Chimney Corner. Missing Fritz etc.. Love to Nanny and the Parkers. Enclosure; W. [Waddilove?] book order from White’s, Bishop of London’s Isaiah included. They are for Mr . Madan who pays all charges, Mr. Robinson may add any book etc.. as the case comes under Lord G’s. direction. W. assures Mr. Robinson and Mr. Draper that he has not lost or given away any Sallisst belonging to Mr. Robinson. 29 March 1779 [Grantham advises no notice be taken of the “absurd” latter part of it]. Monday [29 March 1779].
