    Recovered money from Messrs. Joyes. Dined at home. Played base with Canales. Walked to Puerta San Vicente. Wrote to Messrs. Gregory and Datencamp. Didn't go to the Fair, dirty, shabby and tedious as ever. Does not indulge his great appetite. Waddilove poking about for purchases. 3 October [1778]. The Major's horse has arrived. Meeting Manuel at Munro's tomorrow to give final orders. If Waddilove persists in transporting Rounante, Manuel will ride him and lead Chico etc.. Perico will attend Almagro to Bilbao, usual Groom for Orailly. Dined with Gazola and Pozzi. Writing to thank Arcos for writing to the Major and in the letters which are likely to come under the King Inspection will do full justice to Morino[?] for his assistance. 4 October [1778]. Transport of horses. 5 October [1778]. Two days lost in getting passports for horses as their marks were [not] stated in enough detail. Played base. Has same symptoms of the Gravel. Disagreeable affair of a Spanish Packet boat in the Madrid Gazette [no detail]. Negretti's books arrived and brought for Waddilove some Arabic books for Bayer, a Letter to Lord Sandwich by Forster and his answer to Wales[?]. Negretti has the Regiment of Lisbon given to him, he is a favourite at the Escurial, "where he is liberal of Presents which are soon after transferred to other People". Received no.51. Brief talk about post. Must [not] talk too much of Newby yet. Longs to see little boy [nephew Parker] in his uniform. 7 October 1778.
