    Had his Tertullia last night. Little boy's picture [nephew Parker] particularly admired. Cold meal; finished in 20 minutes. Brief play. Lost seven pistoles. About 40 people attended. Broke up about 2.30. Breakfasted this morning with Munro. Madame Smissaert played, sung and danced, resembles Mary Coke and Nancy. Grantham not in love but pleased to have seen a pretty woman as well as Frederick. Dined at Pachiers[?], compares his lady and the snowy beauty of Madame Smissaert. Galvez has sent all Embassadors an Arrobe of Spanish snuff. Hopes Frederick's toothache not bad, Grantham's mouth soreness is gone. Most people think the Queen of Portugal has never been ill, unjustly. 19 July [1778]. Update on post received. Excellent account of Frederick from Tom [Pelham]. Don Rodrigo named for Turin. Visited Aranda. Dined at Masin's, went to Palace with Madame Smissaert. Going to the Benevente's. Toulon Fleet at Boston. The Brest Fleet is out. Fine ner Masin's again, the German Coachmaker burnt out. Lost five medals at Venice's last night. [23 July 1778]. Fandango and Torredillas at the Beneventes. Diego wrote from Bilbao. Has written to him and Shadwell. Frederick will have renewed their claim about their situation [nothing more specific]. Waddilove well but drinks cyder. Goya's etchings; Waddilove has seen, Frederick to have a set. Pohl and Waddilove quarreled about a picture, sold by Pohl fr more than Waddilove wanted to pay. Dispute about St. John's thumb. 24 [June 1778].
