    Walked in the Calle before 8 am. Breakfasted, Prayers then Court. Afterwards received his company of eighteen; Nuncio, Masi, Maunitx, Venize, Portugal, Zenowieff, Almodóvar, Fernanunez, Lozada, Pachereo, Francisco Pachuo, two Portuguese ladies and gentlemen, Masserano, Munro, Villahermosa. Marino dined early and returned after being with the King. Excellent dinner. Gave the Tea ice, invented it himself. Sharing Canales with Old Magnicio, to whose band he belongs. General talk of how he passes the time etc... Almodóvar older but not much changed. Carries his niece until she is old enough to Mortaruiton. Madame is coming down. Wrote to Gazola that Frederick now in London. Sends best remembrances as do so many that Grantham hasn't mentioned. 10 May 1778. Update on post sent. Gala yesterday. Lost four meals at Peñafuenes' etc... Up early, read the divine Georgie[?]. Much not understood as he doesn't (like M. Burgoing) carry commentators and dictionaries to the Promenade. Going to Court. [Interval]. Received Frederick's no. 10 and one from Tom [Pelham]. Dined at Musquiz'. Feelings on receipt of Frederick's letter etc... Not alarmed by Draper's despondency about Frederick's health, believes F's assurances and trusts Nanny's, Tom's and Sierre's accounts, latter's to Delappiere. Sorry Fanny Pelham appears unwell. Hope Frederick's new Swiss servant will do. Whitehall needs much work. Reference to the 12 Apostles. Frederick's new frocks and hair cut. Much love to Tom [Pelham]. Frederick does right to send Diego. Sierre is devoted to Frederick. Describes contents of Sierre's good letter. Walked to the Embassador's today. Sketched. Met Morino there. Has seen Bournonville/Bournoneville since, recovered illness well enough to resemble Don Quixote. Duchess of Arcos ill one day. Sends compliments. Missed second Conversation yesterday to read Frederick's letter in the Garden. Frederick has read Emile. Grantham's views on Dr. Beattie. Dr. Roberston mentioned. Dr. Watson offers Waddilove a Scotch Doctor's Degree, sure he will not accept. Reference to Cambridge degrees. Tom [Pelham's] response to meeting Frederick again. Thank little boy [nephew - Jack Parker] for his good account of his sister. 12 May [1778]. Decyphered a long letter from Mr. Walpole, outlined a drawing, rode Tordo etc... Canales came and Grantham played. Don Francisco visited to enquire after Frederick. Discussion of Grantham's recent headaches. Reflecting Telescope procured for Monmorin by Monro/Munro. Big as a Canon. Grantham cannot go to his house to see it, so they will meet at the Camp Flamenco to explain it. Would be happy to see Frederick through it taking water at the Temple Stairs. 13 May [1778]. H.C.M. [His Catholic Majesty] enquired after Frederick today, knowing he was in England. Almodóvar's niece ill, his wife will not come on Saturday. Grantham will have to go to Madrid for a day therefore. Has written to Lady Pelham and Nanny. Frederick will write by Spanish Messenger if possible. Dining at home often. No one worth inviting. At least he is at his ease. 14 May [1778].
