Snowed in the morning, worth recording. Court to Aranjuez, following tomorrow. Negreth's house, saw it by daylight, has some good pictures and books. Will Frederick send the 'Ariesto' to add to his books. Saw his horses. Dined at Masin's etc... Walnut table; large, smooth, strong, fold up legs for removing, two deep drawers, cost only 200 Rlva. From Nicolas'. Monsieur Sali brought some silk samples. If Frederick sends nothing from Paris will take a plain silk for daily wear in Summer. Dined at Kaunitz' and Masins. Played but neither won or lost. Had a K____ggell[?]. Soup at Grantham's request, put him in mind of thirty years ago. Waddilove dined at both places. Glad Siere saw his brother. Buy him a present from Grantham. Delapierre dressed in a spotted Coat and Cape. Kaunitz has made a frock like theirs with silver buttons. M. Floridablanca's misfortune to lose a brother, a Priest (not good for much). Had a great piece of Preferment in Musica designed by Spanish Court for Doria, but Morino at Rome secured it first. The Joyes' were there this morning. 23 April 1778 Just received his from Paris, glad he received Grantham's. Aranda's was a great attention to him, glad he made use of it. Hope his public letters [G's] of 24th Ulto. Will satisfy as to public affairs. No news for the Office. Nothing known of real state of things; confined to so few, much discretion and reserve. Glad Draper has seen Shadwell, wishes the latter had taken the £30. Will ask Draper to pay him anything to close the Account that there will be no pretence for his coming and going. All packed up for Aranjuez, wishes never to be back in his present room. Anxious to hear from him somewhat settled etc. 24 [April 1778]
