Happy to see Miguel and have him give a good account of Frederick. He gave Grantham Frederick's letter and the cross of Burgos which is placed among the Alajay [Alhajas] Mayores. Miguel said Frederick had decided to take the Lyons Road. Apology for not writing to him there. Waddilove also received a Cross from Burgos. The orders about Miguel will be obeyed. Frederick's people are as much satisfied with him as he is with them. Whenever François drives Grantham he shall have a Gratuity Extraordinary. Went to see Santa Cruz's bust and Mengs' St. Peter at the Barbers with Waddilove. Can't ride due to rain. Grey horse at grass with Munro's. Disappointed about Aranjuez, convenient for the Court, better able to distribute time there. If no music this evening will go to Gazola's. Story of Coach breaking down in Calle de Atocha on way to the Delicias. Madame Fernanunez[?] with them. Returned in Masserano's Chariot and Frederick’s. Another Coach ordered. Found Mr. Morillo in same condition at the Prado. Took their respective carriages to Me. Bejar's door and went home. Miguel has just brought the knife, fork and spoon. Will tip him tomorrow. 11 April 1778. Yesterday's activity too boring to write. Gazola and Kaunitz mentioned. Today little more interesting accept writing to them. Nanny's enclosed to Draper, his to Sir J. Lambert. Pleased to see little Hazlewood this morning. Will breakfast together at Aranjuez. Hasn't seen Goya Cochea yet. Many people enquiring after Frederick. Kaunitz particularly. If the Puerta del Sol news was to be believed one would think Grantham had had an hour and half conversation with H.C.M. [His Catholic Majesty]. He does honour, Grantham particular distinction however. He also enquired often after Frederick. Grantham overcoming the pain of their separation no. 13 April [1778].
